Louis Barani has 25 years of government and private-sector experience in security risk management and critical infrastructure protection. His diverse experience includes the development of physical security, operational security and security technology strategies, policies, programs and requirements. 

Barani currently serves as the World Trade Center Security Director with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Port Authority). As Security Director for the World Trade Center, he is developing and will implement and oversee a comprehensive security strategy that will balance critical infrastructure protection, emergency operations and business continuity requirements of the site with the economic viability of this very important commercial enterprise. This program includes coordinating the security and safety of the World Trade Center site between entities that include the Port Authority, NYPD, FDNY and other New York City agencies, as well as World Trade Center stakeholders and Lower Manhattan corporations and commercial properties. 

Lou Barani earned his Master of Science in Homeland Security Management degree from the Homeland Security Management Institute, Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from St. John’s University. He is an Adjunct Professor and Senior Fellow at the Homeland Security Management Institute at Long Island University where he developed and instructs a graduate level course entitled Risk Management for Critical Infrastructure Protection. He also provides instruction for a Risk Assessment Training Course for Executives and Managers at the Institute. He is affiliated with the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and other relevant industry organizations. He also brings 20 years of military experience with the US Navy, serving in Naval Special Warfare, Naval Coastal Warfare and Naval Intelligence units, and holds the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. Since September 11, 2001, Barani has been activated for military service and deployed four times in support of combat operations

Our 2008 West Point Breakfast Meeting was held on Thursday, October 16, 2008. This was our fourth annual meeting at the class of 49 Lodge at West Point. Our 2007 West Point Breakfast Meeting was held on Thursday, October 18, 2007. We had a great turnout and we are happy to report that it was again a resounding success. Our guest speaker was Mark J. Mershon, Assistant Director in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation. We wish to thank Assistant Director Mershon for his time and his very well received presentation. Our June 2007 Meeting was held on Thursday, June 21st, at 12:30 PM and was a Networking/Luncheon Meeting.It was held at Stewart International Airport - Pace University Conference Room (2nd floor).Our Guest Speaker was Charles A. Muldoon, Jr. Coordinating Special Agent Counterterrorism Division NY Metro InfraGard Program.
InfraGard is an FBI program dedicated to promoting ongoing dialogue and timely communication between the private sector and the FBI concerning critical infrastructure protection issues. The FBI and InfraGard members are engaged in this cooperative undertaking in recognition that a public/private strategic partnership is of vital importance to our nation’s security. As security professionals, we all share an interest in making the Mid-Hudson Region a safe place to live and work. We understand that many of you cannot attend our morning meetings and we are considering holding some meetings in the afternoon or evening to give everyone an opportunity to attend at a time when it is convenient for them.
